Coir rugs
COIR is a 100% natural fibre, extracted from the husks of coconuts and produced without the use of artificial chemicals, bleaches and colours.
Woven into mats, coir becomes one of the most robust and versatile floor coverings – made from one of the world's most environmentally-friendly fibres.
|
Loose, unfitted coir mats are easy maintenance –
can be vacuumed; taken outside and shaken; and even turned upside down for second life! (some customers have been known to occasionally hose them down in the garden!) Although the coir mats mop up surface damp, they have a natural resistance to water so do not easily rot. |

To cut or not? If you decide to cut these mats (for example, with a stanley knife), you will then be faced with an unfinished edge that will quickly fray if not bound over. You could try binding your cut edge with heavy carpet tape, perhaps then facing with fabric sewn through the mat. Another method is to trap the cut edge under skirting. But we cannot vouch for the effectiveness of these methods. If possible, it is best not to cut because the original edges on our coir have been properly finished off on the loom when the product was made, and left like that they will give a much longer life.
